Cycling tourism, MB, hiking, nordic walking, canyoning, climbing paragliding and golf for a holiday all about sport and active lifestyles

The Friulian Dolomites with Piancavallo and the Magredi at their feet are a huge, versatile outdoor gym. A gym that is always open, 365 days a year, where sports lovers, whether beginners or competitors, can practice their favourite sport in highly specialised, well-equipped areas (such as the Nordic Life Park in Andreis or the Pradis Nature Aqua Park in Clauzetto) or along trails that simply follow the course of nature.

Let’s start with two wheels. Panoramic mountain roads, cycle paths along rivers winding through the foothills, the Cycle routes of the Pordenone Valleys suitable for families and cycle tourists, dozens of trails of varying degrees of difficulty for MTB fans, steep climbs for competitive riders, and a fun Bike Funkpark for fans of freeriding and downhill biking in Piancavallo: you can get anywhere on two wheels, following the roads cycled by the stars of the Giro d’Italia or by the champions of the Caneva International Circuit, which is among the best in the world due to its climbs and descents.

And what’s more: there’s hiking, trekking and horse trekking, as well as gentle walks and orienteering in the Magredi or high up in the mountains. You can enjoy climbing, free-climbing and eco-climbing on the peaks of the Friulian Dolomites and on the climbing walls in Erto, near to the Vajont Dam, Castelnuovo del Friuli, Clauzetto, Travesio and Vito d’Asio. You can go paragliding from the slopes of Mount Cavallo and from other hillsides around Travesio, Castelnovo and Solimbergo, where you will also find a launch point for ultralight aircraft. Or have a round of golf at the 18 hole course in Castel d’Aviano. Many nordic walking trails have been organised through various locations, from Piancavallo to Valeriano, from Claut to Montereale. But the king of these nordic walks is Andreis with its Nordic Life Park: 8 trails of various distances, at varying gradients and all clearly mapped out, including hire equipment and instructors.

While the waters here are another extraordinary outdoor gym: the charming lakes here are like fantastic mountain beaches, just like the incredibly blue Barcis Lake, which is among the international capitals of powerboating and hosts many international competitions; the torrents of Cellina, Meduna, Cosa and Arzino are fun trails for kayaking and canoeing and, where the current is stronger like in Alta Valcellina, for rafting; the caves and gorges are a real paradise for lovers of canyoning, who flock here from all over Europe. The most spectacular ones are the Caves and Ravine of Pradis in Clauzetto, a complex system of caves and canyons that are equipped to securely welcome visitors, who can descend in complete safety to the riverbed which carved its way through here over millions of years. Alongside these caves (and surely among the most fascinating natural spectacles in Friuli Venezia Giulia), you will find the Pradis Nature Aqua Park, a canyoning centre where you can hire equipment and a guide to accompany you down the adventurous routes of varying degrees of difficulty (the simplest ones are at the natural Aqua Park, which is perfect for families with children).

Lastly, summers here at Piancavallo, the best young, sports resort in the Pordenone mountains, come to life with the fun Bike Funkpark and the acrobatic RampyPark, featuring mountaineering climbs, MTB and nordic walking, tennis and archery, hang gliding and paragliding, trekking and horse riding.
